Chris Farrell Jun 1, 2009

According to America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) about 8 million people are covered by HSAs. That’s up from 6.1 million one year earlier.

The new inflation-adjusted amounts for 2010 for health savings accounts (HSAs) and high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) have been released, says Sibson Consulting. Here are the numbers (the out-of-pocket expense does not include premiums):

Individual coverage: Maximum annual HSA contribution: $3,050
Family coverage: maximum annual HSA contribution: $6,150

Minimum HDHP Deductible
Individual: $1,200
Family: $2,400

Maximum HDHP Deductible
Individual: None
Family None

Maximum HDHP Out-of-Pocket Expense

Individual: $5,950
Family: $11,900

As in 2009, individuals age 55 or over can contribute an additional $1,000 to their HSAs in 2010 and subsequent years
