The Marketplace Reader

If you’re reading this, well, that’s a start . . .

Richard Core Jul 8, 2008

Welcome to “The Marketplace Reader,” our new news blog. We’ll be posting all sorts of items here Monday through Friday. Some of it will be straightforward news that’s important, and other stuff will be whatever catches our eye or we find humorous. And on a really good day we might be able to work Ben Bernanke into all of the above.

“The Reader” is an experiment for us. We’re going to see how it fares during the next couple of months and then we’ll figure out where to take it from there.

We’ll be trolling the wires and the Web and pulling ideas from the morning Marketplace meeting where editors and reporters fill a big whiteboard with potential stories, observations and ideas that get whittled down to what you hear on the air.

We’ve borrowed the title of the blog from the term we use for items read by the show hosts in-between the reporters’ stories. Why? It just seemed appropriate — and we couldn’t think of anything else.

On most days, Melissa Kaplan will get things rolling. (She has the pleasure of starting with the Marketplace Morning Report crew at 1:30 a.m. PT.) I’ll follow up and take you through rest of the day. You can let us know how we’re doing and offer your suggestions at letters@marketplace.org.

And just one warning: We have puns and we won’t be afraid to use them. Because, as you know . . . This is Marketplace.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
