Calculating the rent at the White House

This final note today, focusing on how a growing number of Americans rent their homes. So, what if President Obama were one of them?

Zillow.com, which chatted with the president today, did the math on the White House, valuing it at $319 million. Using an online rent calculator, a home for that price would rent for $1.8 million a month.

The Atlantic says that since Obama’s worth about $7 million, he could pay that rent for about four months.

If Mitt Romney had won the election, he could stick around a lot longer. He’d have been able to rent the White House until August of 2024.
