Thanks for mentioning the Making Work Pay credit on Saturday's show. I was actually in the midst of finishing my federal taxes and would have missed my credit without you! I'll be making an extra donation to my local NPR station in gratitude!

I have a cookie bistro business in
Bath, ME. I process credit cards through our POS system for our bistro as well as our online store. In this day and age of instant everything with banking, why does it still take 3-5 days to receive funds from a credit transaction. Technically, there is all this cyber money out there for days and days. Who specifically is benefiting from this, is it the bank? the gateway? the merchant processor? How much interest hypothetically is being made from this procedure annually? Is there any hope for reform for all the bank fees, the processing fees and the time frame. They actually charge me $10 monthly to send me a statement for each account that is $2400 for small biz annually. Been asking for clarification but have gotten no straight answers from anyone.Any advice?

Today you took a call from an engineer, married to another engineer, expecting their third, I believe, child, and expressing trepidation about their finances. Your comment was, "It's always a good idea to try to live on one income." You know, there are thousands of us who DO live on one income, raise children, and do all this on our own. I don't feel sorry at all for an engineer, whose income is probably three times what mine is, and who should be well prepared, considering his wife is also in that elite category. Bah!
