Welcome to the future.

Apple has purchased Israel-based tech company PrimeSense for a reported $350 million. PrimeSense, which helped create Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, creates sensing technology that gives devices the ability to see in three dimensions. Imagine a tablet with 3D sensors that watch you and respond.

Larry Dignan, editor in chief of ZDNet, says other companies are working on their own versions of 3D sensing technology.

“That whole Hal from Space Odyssey will be increasingly likely,” he says.
