There’s a new video website that wants you to stop watching cat videos and start paying attention to things that matter. For example, a video that explores what would happen if America had the same water shortages as parts of Africa. Or, who actually works for minimum wage and what they think about it. If that stuff sounds like homework, you’d be surprised at how good Upworthy is getting at making the videos they find go viral.

Peter Koechley, co-founder of the website Upworthy, joins Marketplace Tech host Ben Johnson to discuss the new ways people are finding news online.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
