Your iPhone is about to get a lot more Facebook-y

Marc Sanchez Jun 12, 2012

One of the announcements at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, which kicked off yesterday, was the integration of Facebook into upcoming operating systems. Mountain Lion, Mac’s upcoming operating system will have “like” buttons for you to share. All Things D notes: “New Facebook notifications populate Mountain Lion’s Notification Center, as well as the iOS notification bar.”

And it looks like people can stop wondering if there’s ever going to be a Facebook phone, because that’s essentially what the next upgrade to the iPhone’s operating system turn it into. CNET describes the upcoming marriage of tech this way: “Log in once and share anything you want without an app. Share pictures from iPhone’s camera. Share your location from maps. Facebook status updates and contacts will be in your iPhone contacts.”

Apple touts that you will be able to log into Facebook once, then share from wherever (photos, maps, contacts, Siri) without ever opening the Facebook app, but CNET issues this warning in the form of a translation of the Apple/Facebook announcement:

We’re going to make it so easy to share via Facebook that you’ll inevitably share a photo you’ll regret, brag about a high score you hit while you were supposed to be working, and weigh down your contacts with pseudo friends. And better yet, this marriage of iOS 6 and Facebook will allow you to activate Siri so she can post a conversation you wouldn’t want your spouse to hear. Your status will be “it’s complicated” in no time.
