One of last year’s big “hits” in the malware world was something called DNS Changer, which had been hijacking browsers since 2007. If infected, you could still access whatever site you wanted, but your browser was re-routed through a server owned by the bad guys, which is how they made money. The good news is that FBI agents caught the bad guys. Malware be gone! The bad news is that, to build its case, the Feds set up duplicate servers to track information. So if your computer is still infected, it’s been running through FBI servers set up to look like the old bad-guy servers.

The Feds have enough information for the case and are going to shut those servers down on July 9. That means if your computer is still running DNS Changer, you won’t be able to browse the net. No more cat videos or  fantasy baseball or eBay or Netflix or (gasp!) Facebook! How will you survive? It’s easy really.  The Chicago Tribune points out this site, which will run your machine through a quick, download-free diagnostic test to see whether you have the bug.
