Verizon: pay to play data plans coming soon

Mobile phone carrier Verizon wireless will soon start charging users tiered rates depending on how much data they download. That's according to Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg, who spoke Thursday at a Goldman Sachs conference.

Verizon is following in the footsteps of AT&T, which introduced its own tiered data plans this summer. Seidenberg said he expected to roll out tiered billing for mobile data plans sometime in the next four to six months.
