On Wednesday, the Department of Transportation officially asked the security community for "informed views on the perceived needs, prevailing practices, and lessons learned concerning the cybersecurity and safety of safety-critical electronic control systems used in various modes of transportation and other industry sectors," with a goal of coming up with some security standards around transportation technology and control systems.

Other researchers have also proved they can hack into cars and mess with the brakes and other internal systems of cars regardless of what the driver wants to do. Cars are considered the final frontier as far as connectivity goes - and while we're bringing more technologies into cars that help us network, we have yet to establish security standards the way we have with personal computers.
