Top G-Man TOTALLY backs up MTR on all our cybersecurity obsession

John Moe Mar 2, 2012

Every night when I get home from work, my 11-year-old son asks me what I talked about at work today. Last night I told him cybersecurity. “Again?!” he asked. We do talk about it a lot on Tech Report.

But there’s a reason for that: IT REALLY MATTERS A LOT. And it turns out the head of the FBI agrees with us! FBI Director Robert Mueller told a gathering of security professionals yesterday that while terrorism remains the top threat today, it will be eclipsed in the not too distant future by online attacks. “Today, terrorists have not used the Internet to launch a full-scale cyberattack, but we cannot underestimate their intent,” Mueller said.

He urged businesses to pool knowledge on security with each other and with the government. “There are only two types of companies: those that have been hacked, and those that will be. Even that is merging into one category: those that have been hacked and will be again.Maintaining a code of silence will not serve us in the long run.”
