Time makes a deal with Apple

John Moe May 2, 2011

After a year of negotiations between magazine publisher Time Inc. and Apple, all iPad versions of Time Inc.’s magazines Sports Illustrated, Time, and Fortune will be free for people who also subscribe to the print editions. Up until now, the magazines cost an extra five bucks or so to read on an iPad, which is pretty stupid considering you already paid for the dang thing once. The result of the old model discouraged subscribers (aka the people who loved the content already) from spending money on the iPad version. The iPad version could have some appeal to people who might buy a single issue but that’s kind of limited.
