States pushing online gambling

John Moe Mar 2, 2011

The Wall Street Journal reports that New Jersey seems to be the first state to make a major effort to legalize online gambling as a means of generating revenue. New Jersey governor Chris Christie will decide this week whether Atlantic City casinos can run gambling websites for citizens of New Jersey. Iowa, California, and Florida are also working on similar measures but Jersey is the one to watch because it could set precedent for the rest of the country. There is opposition to the idea but the lobbying from the gambling industry seems to be overpowering everything else.
