Online romance (with Fabio)

Marc Sanchez Apr 9, 2012

Sourcebooks, a leading romance book publisher, will launch an online site for their popular  novels. Discovernewlove.com will launch this week offering a 6 month subscription for $9.99. For that price subscribers will get to choose a book a month from four recommended titles. It’s not exactly the Library of Congress in terms of choice, but I have a feeling that readers of the genre aren’t all too picky.

The Wall Street Journal reports: “The publisher picked romance because it is fiction’s most-read genre. Romance readers also have been quick to adopt digital books—a format that is more easily kept private than a paperback with a bodice-ripper cover.”

Last week we told you about Next Issue, a subscription-based app for Android devices that lets you browse the pages of several magazines for a monthly fee, now Sourcebooks is doing something similar. Let’s call it the Netflixisation of publishing. We’ll see if it catches on.
