Codebreaker

No. 1 with a bullet

Marc Sanchez Jun 29, 2012

Well that didn’t take long. Google announced Wednesday that it made a mobile version of its popular Chrome browser for Apple devices. iPhone and iPad owners have been foaming at the mouth for just such an app for years. Yesterday the app appeared in Apple’s App Store, and just like that the app is already the No. 1 free download. CNET reports what’s in the Chrome goody bag:

Mobile Chrome offers some of the same features as its larger desktop cousin, including an integrated address and search box, tabbed browsing, and the ability to switch the position of tabs. An Incognito feature lets you browse securely without having your history tracked.

If you’re already a dedicated Chrome user and heavy Internet-er, you might also be happy to learn that mobile Chrome will keep track of your browsings on different devices. What that means is, if you’re looking up, oh I don’t know, stats for this year’s Boston Red Sox before you head off to Fenway Park, you can hop on the T, continue the search on your iPhone, and get to your seat in time for batting practice. And if you’re not into baseball, well then I guess this app is going to be useless (insert emoticon of choice to signal smirk-faced sarcasm).
Judging from reviews left by people who have been using the app for a day or less – let’s call them “veterans” – this version of Chrome is a hit. As of this morning, there were 3615 reviews, most of which are in the best-you-can-get five-star category. Time for a MOBILE BROWSER BATTLE! I don’t even know what that would look like, or really what it means, but say it in a kind of monster truck announcer voice and it’s pretty fun.
