Massive security holes in NASA’s computer networks

John Moe Mar 30, 2011

A government report says that missions could be compromised and sensitive data could be leaked out due to big problems in the security of NASA networks. “Until NASA addresses these critical deficiencies and improves its IT security practices, the Agency is vulnerable to computer incidents that could have a severe to catastrophic effect on Agency assets, operations, and personnel,” according to the report from the Inspector General’s office. It found vulnerabilities on multiple servers that could be hacked from the internet, some servers easily revealed network encryption keys and passwords. Sure it would be good if the truth about Area 51 was finally revealed but this is still scary stuff.
