Ice Cream Sandwich debuts

John Moe Oct 19, 2011

“We wanted to have the most advanced operating system we could build combined with the stupidest name imaginable,” a Google spokesperson didn’t actually say.

The OS debuted last night. It comes with an NFC payment system called Android Beam and a new weird feature called Face Unlock, which recognizes your face and won’t let strangers unlock the phone. Which is fine, except for when your evil twin tries to get at your phone. Also has a tabbed browser and a ton new features described here.

Ice Cream Sandwich also uses a new font called Roboto which gets the meta-brainy font fan treatment here.
