Here’s a new term for you: cable shaving

John Moe Jun 15, 2011

No, it’s not trimming your facial hair with a bit of coaxial cable, it’s cutting back on the level of cable you have. As Netflix streaming becomes increasingly popular, cable appears to be really taking a hit, according to a new study by The Diffusion Group. It says 32 percent of Netflix customers plan to reduce their cable coverage in the next year. That’s double the 16% who said the same thing in the study a year ago. But it’s not necessarily about cutting the cord entirely, it’s often about reducing the level of cable you have. Diffusion Group says the number of people subscribing to cable is holding steady, but the services are being reduced. So cutting out HBO and going to basic, or cutting out basic and going to the minimal “limited basic” channels.
