These come around all the time, telling us that Big Face is wonderful or terrible. The latest has a little bit of both. It’s from Dr. Larry D. Rosen, a professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, and it was presented at the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association in Washington, D.C. It’s centered around teenagers and pre-teens. The good: “virtual empathy” is on the rise and sites like Facebook can help introverts come out of their shell. The bad: possible correlation to disorders like “mania, paranoia, aggressive tendencies, anti-social behavior and increased alcohol use.” Welcome to Facebook, kids. Now go off and become outgoing, empathetic paranoid drunks!
