G+ on the iPhone

John Moe Jul 20, 2011

Google+ is now available as an app on the iPhone. It had already been around for Android but it’s a little surprising that Apple and Google got it on Apple’s platform so quickly. It’s already the number one app in the Apple app store. I think we’re still very much in the sniffing around stage with Google+ but in my own anecdotal observations, I’ve noticed a few things:
– The friends I have on Google+ are often active on Facebook as well, giving me more reason to doubt the notion that people will choose one network over the other. If you’re into social, you’re into social and that means Facebook AND G+ AND Twitter AND not Myspace.
– I’ve noticed a few friends on G+ that swore off Facebook. Either they’re happier with the privacy or they really want to be social but didn’t want to back off their stated convictions.
– The experience of getting an email telling me someone I don’t know is following me on G+ is creepy. I don’t mind on Twitter because I understand that to be public at all times. But since I don’t know how to play this G+ instrument just yet, it’s unnerving.
