FBI releases Child ID app

John Moe Aug 8, 2011

The FBI has released its first ever app. Child ID allows parents to store their child’s picture and vital information on the phone so they can provide to authorities in the event the child is missing. The app also can quickly dial 911 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Bureau says that none of the data sent to them will be stored or used without permission. On the one hand, it seems a little risky to have all your kid’s information stored on a device that could conceivably be hacked. On the other hand, if you can trust anyone to make a secure app, it would be the FBI. Child ID is only available for iPhone at the moment, the FBI says it’s working to get the app on other platforms.
