Facebook has an app store (7’4”, 520 pounds)
Well, sure. Why not? Everybody has to have an app store, right? The Big Face launched a central location for apps yesterday and now that it’s up and running, I’ve kind of realized how shocking it is that the company’s never had an app store until now. They’ve had apps, plenty of ‘em, like Farmville, Words With Friends, stuff like that, and people have been using them for years. Mobile is a big focus for the app store as Facebook tries to show it can make money in mobile. The apps are mostly free but Facebook does make some good coin off of in-app purchases.
The Guardian says:
However, the focus on mobile apps is likely to attract criticism from those who see them as harmful to the future of the open web. Facebook has already faced criticism from internet rivals such as Google for its so-called "walled garden" approach to what can and cannot be released on its platform.
The app store will be available on Facebook's iOS and Android apps, as well as on the main website. Users can send an app on the website to be downloaded onto their mobile device.
