Facebook gets Friend.ly

Marc Sanchez Oct 11, 2011

Am I bad at punctuating a statement about Facebook’s gregarious disposition? No. I am reporting that Facebook acquired a company called Friend.ly for an undisclosed sum. Friend.ly is a Q & A service that has been pretty successful in terms of both traffic and raising venture capital. Facebook says that the service will continue to operate but the people who built it will be assigned to other projects within Facebook, which I guess is a way of saying it will keep working but not well. Q & A is one of those categories in tech that’s always supposed to be the next big thing but never actually seems to get there. Like geolocation. Will this get it there?
