Assignment number one: damage control from Zuckerberg’s statements on kids and Facebook!
The social media company is recognizing that 70% of its users live outside the United States and that laws and policies regarding internet usage, privacy, and age appropriateness can vary greatly from country to country. So they’re hiring policy directors whose main job will be to serve as a liaison between the company and foreign governments. It’s a similar step to what Google did several years ago. It also seems about three years too late considering there have been numerous cases just in the past year of countries getting fed up with Facebook’s “share everything” approach and blocking the site.
