Back to the Future Nikes arrive

John Moe Sep 9, 2011

This is all over the place this morning and it’s more of a Nerd Alert story than a straight tech one. The Nike Air Mag was the shoe worn by Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) in Back to the Future II but sadly never existed in the real world. Now they’ve come true as Nike is producing 1500 pair and auctioning them on eBay with proceeds to go toward the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds research into Parkinson’s Disease.

From the Nice Kicks blog:

Leading up to the release of the Nike Air Mag, a 50 million match grant was given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation by Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki; they will match all donations to the foundation, up to 50 million dollars, through the end of 2012.

Sadly, the shoes do NOT feature automatic lacing.
And the world still awaits the hoverboard.
But it’s a start.
