Bill Radke: You know, I'll bet at some point in your life, you have said to yourself, "I have this great idea for a new product," and then you forgot about it because, how would you ever get it to market? Well reporter Simone Orendain tells us about an invention Web site based in Charlotte, N.C.
Simone Orendain: Every good idea needs a home. Like a scratching post covered with sand paper so your cat can file its own nails.
Ad: Here kitty, kitty! Ever try to trim your cat's claws? It's impossible! Now your cat can trim her own claws, with Emery Cat!
"Emery Cat" is on store shelves thanks to a PBS reality show called "Everyday Edisons." The program tracks how ordinary folks turn ideas into useful products. The show got so many great ideas from would-be inventors, they started a Web site called "Edison Nation" just to collect those pitches.
And the business community took notice. Now companies like Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond and PetSmart come to "Edison Nation" to find the next big thing.
Matt Spangard: We have a team of experts who interview the retailers.

Spangard: They then tell us what their needs are. We put together a live product search.
So for example, Home Depot is looking for new tools that make painting faster and easier. Exactly what that means is left up to the inventor's imagination. Spangard says retailers like the system because they'd prefer to deal directly with Edison Nation's experts, rather than with individual inventors.
Charlotte inventor and veterinarian Mike Thomann knows what it's like to go it alone. He spent $50,000 and five years of his life trying to sell companies on his invention, a portable pooper scooper.
Mike Thomann: I'm trying to cram this down their throats, whereas Edison Nation has idea hunts where companies are coming saying these are the products we want, we have an opening for it, so just fulfill the opening.
Now Thomann's invention -- he calls it the "Port-a-Scoop" -- is a finalist in a PetSmart search.
Thomann: It's a streamlined process and you don't have to fight with these retailers and these big companies much to get your product on a shelf. So it's a very efficient process.
If Thomann's idea is accepted, Edison Nation will give him a $2,500 advance. And they'll take care of licensing the product.
So, what's in it for Edison Nation? It splits royalties 50-50 with the inventors.

Website idea that has nothing to do with a product. The soul purpose is to live without money. with my idea everyone will live without worries and prosper with NO EFFORT. most ideas are pointless and this is the most important one. You DONT want to pass this opportunity up.
i have ideas to give away for free.i have been just venting out ideas to freinds quite by chance or in conversation when ever i notice something that could be made or created and lo and behold the very same idea i vented out is on the market .wow imagine that just bursting forth with ideas and suggestions and in time get to see that very same thing made,brings joy to my soul.now what if i could just give them out for free then.would anyone be interested then,use them dont use them, perfect them do what ever.i have ideas for microsoft,i had one 2 years back a software program that is out__the microsoft 2010,i had it written in my diary and my pages got stolen, hows that.so do companies accept free ideas suggestions that they could use or improve stuff they make.
and i do not have any degrees to my name no technical qualifications,
I have a ton of ideas for years several have been patented by others over time and I see things come to market that I thought of in the late 1980's and have had no way to bring my ideas to market, research, patent ect. for lack of money. I hope this site can help me do this. I dont mind giving some of the profits thats ok with me. for me my passion it to get these ideas to market and help people stop being killed in car accidents, air planes, and more. I have ideas for new energys that the department of defence would like to learn about, I thought this up one year when I was reading about another invention, I had studied other inventors and inventions of the past and when doing that alot of great new ideas just seemed to pop into my head. I get that from my dad who was an engineer for the navy all his life, and he designed navy ships for the navy way back in the 1940's-1970's and did other things for them. he loved the navy. anyhow I got some of his knowledge or just insite as to how things work. or that these ideas just seem to come to me rather normal like and I get several of these each month. I got an idea for new Energy. I cannot say what or how because that would give it away. but its a proven way of making energy for a lifetime. notice I didnt say forever, cause things(parts wear out). I got Great ideas for saving lives in autos planes, ect. transportation saftey ideas just popped in my head one day. so I would like a team of people to get together and patent things, share in the profits together. and get the brightest minds of the world together to team up and make some of the greatest inventions ever thought of. adding some of my own as well.
I have a brand new idea for solar cells, I cannot say what it is without patenting it first. but believe me it is revoloutionary cutting edge stuff... I dont really want to super rich off my ideas just reasonably well off and to see them come to market to help people out. and I want to save people to never have them die in a plane crash. yes I have that idea that people have been waiting for to not fear flying anymore.. I just need the real funding to make it all happen as well as the team of people who are some of the brightest on earth. I would love to be a part of someting that great. I fancy thinking of myself as a modern day Edison that is yet to be discovered. and by the way. Tesla should get some credit for being a great inventor ahead of his time from what I have read of him. I also found it ironic that Einstein was really smart with math and physics, but had trouble crossing the road I think I had read about him. Me I have trouble filling out forms but can think up some of the greatest ideas of our time. and yet there still not fullfilled not patented yet. I need funding that is real and serious. Ideas that are as cool as the invention of the computer, perhaps billions of dollars of knowledge but for me its more important that people stop being killed in plane crashes and car crashes. Really it is not good that the car companys and airlines accept that there product every year kills a certian amount of people every year, thats unacceptable what about if no one died from transportation at all? would that be a good selling point, I think so. and its do-able.
I want to be a serious inventor, could use some wise guidance and good advise too. as well as a way to really fund my ideas to real results. I dont need to get super rich off of them, just a reasonable amount to live off of each year would be great. so then I would not have to worry about money anymore and could focus on new ideas to make more of.. : ) I liked the saying when you do a job you love you really are not working ;)... I hope some people will help me to get some of my ideas to become real.

My husband and I are both inventors. We have submitted foour ideas to to be patented and one just been approved > Our problem is how to find a manufacturer to license the innovation/idea that has a patent and patent pending ideas as well. We are small business owner and due to the recent economy we can no longer finance what ever idea we have> Between my husband and I we still have four more ideas that needs to be research. We have prototypes on all our ideas butsince we are short of funds we can't move on with our ideas/innovations.
My husband one evening while flipping with the remote on television happened to watch "Everyday Edison" and he asked me to go to PBS.org but forgot the title of the show> Thanks to google that gave me the show's title and here we are trying to ask help how to find a manufacturer to license my husband's patented idea and patent pendingh ideas as well.

Our imports of foreign oil have continued to climb, even as previous presidents pledged to reverse the trend. And I have the answer in hand with my retrofit hybrid system, everyone can’t buy a new car and maybe they like there old car and want to keep it, my process allow them to do so.
Also, Obama directed federal transportation officials to get going on new fuel efficiency rules, which will affect cars produced and sold for the 2011 model year. Well we don’t have to wait that long, we can start today with my process.

I have been an inventor for over 25 years, but have not had the funds to follow up on many of my ideas. I sat by and painfully watched for years as idea after idea that I had written down became someone else s cash cow. Before Edison Nation, there was no cheap and effective way for inventors to get their ideas to the marketplace. Edison Nation just revolutionized innovation in America. As far as trust is concerned, would you rather do as I have for years, or trust the experts at Edison Nation and take a chance? If your idea isn't exposed to the proper people, you won't make anything. If you can afford tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars and have a team of experts, then by all means... go at it alone. For the rest of us... I've waited 25 years for such a company. I'll be happy to split the profits with them!
