This final note today, following up on our story about the Human Development Index and how the U.S. is slipping. The World Bank came out with its own survey today on how business-friendly various countries are.

The big winner? Kazakhstan. Seems being a authoritarian regime is conducive to starting a business, obtaining construction permits and protecting investors. The U.S., by the way? Number 5, behind Singapore, Hong Kong and the UK.
