Playlist: Songs from the call center

The track “Wolves,” from Dosh’s 2008 album “Wolves and Wishes,” was a great fit for today’s show. It comes packed with frenetic trills and melody changes that sort of reminded me of the frenzy in most call centers, like those featured in Gregory Warner’s story today.

Dosh is one of the artists released on Anticon Records – a San Francisco label devoted to a lot of avant garde hip hop. Hearing one Anticon artist member made me think of another, Alias. He’s an independent hip hop producer originally from Portland, Maine. For the interview on prohibition, there’s no better sound than the old-timey twangs of the Squirrel Nut Zippers? The Chapel Hill, NC band formed in the early nineties and rumor has it they will release a new album this year.

San Francisco-based emcee and producer Unagi mixes it up with some snazzy beats. If you like this track, check out more songs off of this album “It Came from Beneath the SFC.” Guest emcees include Linkletterz and Motion Man.

And our final pick, “Late” by Ben Folds, comes from Pandora CEO Tim Westergren from the first installment of our “Road Warriors” music series.
