Playlist: Preparing for a disaster, the new American Dream

Posted by Christina Huh

For Marketplace, Friday, March 18, 2011

The tsunami in Japan has people in earthquake-prone areas scrambling to prepare for a disaster. Tess talked to Candysse Miller of the Insurance Information Network of California on how to protect your financial assets in case of a catastrophe.

We also talked a lot about financially preparing for the future. American confidence about retirement hits a two-decade low. But Suze Orman tells Tess in an interview that the American Dream is still there, just different. We also give tips on how to approach mom and dad about how they're doing financially and what to do if a family member decides to be the caregiver of the parents. In separate news, Sean Cole looks into the trend in Internet gambling, but never cashing out. And here are the songs we played:

  • A Forest - The CureBuy
  • "Track 8" from 9 Beats album - Ratatat
  • Groove Holmes - Beastie BoysBuy
  • Everything Counts - Depeche ModeBuy
  • Amazing - Kanye West, covered by Writer's Bloc
  • The Chauffeur - Duran DuranBuy
  • Body Language - M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade Buy

The first song opening the March 18th show is not in the playlist. It's a guitar piece with a nice bass playing while Tess is introducing the show, just before the normal music kicks in. Could you please add it to the playlist? Thanks
Amy
