For Marketplace, Thursday, May 19, 2011

President Barack Obama made his second speech on the Middle East today. Kai spoke with Magda Kandil, executive director of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, about the proposed debt relief and loan guarantees for Egypt. Commentator Isobel Coleman talked about why the Middle East needs to create economic opportunities for women. We heard about how the Office of Financial Research hopes to predict financial storms using the same tactics used to predict big weather storms. One Pacific Northwest company is apparently producing too much renewable energy. A new trend in food and sustainability: boutique butchers, and the ethics of eating a pig from nose to tail. Ford unveiled prototypes for technology that can track health on the dashboard. And people are starting to open up their wallets to donate to colleges and universities again. And here are the songs we played:

  • Clever Creatures – The Cave SingersBuy
