For Marketplace, Friday, October 22, 2010

In Seoul, South Korea, at the G-20 meeting, currency value is the hot topic. We tell you what new tactic Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is taking. Back here in the U.S., we look at what bad PR and possible financial restrictions are doing to for-profit colleges. We also try to get a grip on where all the money being spent on political campaigns is coming from. We look at whether the firing of longtime NPR news analyst Juan Williams might affect public radio station donations. And a couple of food stories. McDonald’s is raising its prices and Starbucks is adding wine and beer to its menu. But don’t head out to your local Starbucks yet. The company is still testing out the buzz-worthy menu in a few stores in Seattle. Finally, some small talk to end the week. Here’s the music we played:

  • Out of Touch — Lucinda WilliamsBuy
  • Same Old Drag — The Apples in StereoBuy
  • Vote For Mr. Rhythm — Ella FitzgeraldBuy
  • Telephone And Rubber Band — Penguin Café OrchestraBuy
  • Bernie’s Tune — Curley Hamner & Milt Buckner
