A lump of coal for LCD makers

SCOTT JAGOW: I’m guessing flat-panel TVs will be a pretty popular gift this year, but the two biggest LCD companies might make the naughty list.

Today, officials in Japan said they’re investigating South Korea’s Samsung and Philips for possible price-fixing a couple years ago. Anna Fifield is covering the story for the Financial Times.

ANNA FIFIELD: This is likely to be a very complicated case that could last several years, but if they are found guilty in the long run, the fine could be quite significant, about 10 percent of their sales at the time.

Philips says the U.S. Justice Department is also looking into collusion.
