Final Note

White House keeps state dinner wine list a secret

Kai Ryssdal Mar 13, 2012

This final note today, in line with the expensive liquids theme that seems to have developed in the show today — gas, milk, now wines.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is in town this week. He and President Obama are going to an NCAA basketball tournament game in Ohio tonight.

And then tomorrow, the traditional state dinner at the White House. At which they’ll toast each other with — well, we can’t tell you. The wine list for the dinner isn’t exactly classified, but nobody’s talkin’ about it. Seems the tradition of publishing the wine list ended a year or so ago, when a bottle of cabernet at a dinner for Chinese president Hu Jintao retailed for $399.
