A trillion YouTube views in 2011

Rebecca Black had the most popular YouTube video of 2011.

This final note today -- which I believe qualifies as this week's sign the apocalypse is upon us.

My colleague John Moe noted this morning that we -- collectively -- watched a trillion YouTube videos this year. One trillion. That's 140 videos for every person on the planet -- if all of us actually watched videos.

But here's the thing.  Of those thousand billion videos, this one -- this one -- was the most watched:

Rebecca Black. "Friday."

I'm a little embarrased for us, actually.

I'd never heard of Rebecca Black or her song Friday, but around my house we don't go a day without saying "The maple kind, yeah." or "You're kidding me!" Maybe you find the number one YouTube video embarrassing, but number two is a classic. For me, at least, my 140 video watchings for the year must have included the Ultimate Dog Tease 135 times.
