This final note today: A labor landmark, though not something that will show up in monthly unemployment reports.

Word is out that the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta is set to lift the ban on women in combat in an announcement tomorrow. It's not going to happen all at once; the deadline's 2016.

The services can, in some cases, restrict certain jobs. And in practice, women have been really close to actual combat for years now.
