For the first time, the Dow started the day above 16,000. That’s a far cry from the 36,000 a famous financial commentator once forecast in the 1990s, but it’s something.

The Federal Communications Commission is moving toward lifting a long-standing ban on cell phone calls in-flight. It would permit calls once a plane reaches 10,000 feet.

New federal rules kick in tomorrow, and they’ll beef up a current law that mandates labeling a meat’s country-of-origin. So instead of a basic note stating a lamb chop came from New Zealand, the label would state where the lamb was born, raised and slaughtered. The move is seen by some as a victory for food safety and a consumer’s right to knowledge.
