Help us break down complex financial topics into easy-to-understand analogies. Post a comment below with an idea for the topic of our next Whiteboard video and you could win a signed copy of Paddy Hirsch's new book "Man vs. Markets"

People who know me know I love two things: Explaining stuff to people and getting stuff for free. So it gives me great pleasure to combine these two loves by explaining to you how you how you can get something from me for free.

And that free thing is... a copy of my new book, Man vs. Markets. It explains all the basics and some of the not-so-basics about the financial system. Think of it as one of my Whiteboard videos on paper – with a fancy cover.

Post a comment and you could get free stuff
All you have to do is post a comment on this page suggesting an idea for an upcoming episode of the Whiteboard. Each week starting Friday Sept. 1 and continuing for the next few months, I’ll pick one person at random who left a comment and send them a signed copy of my book. And I’ll use your best ideas for future Whiteboard videos.

So post your comments with ideas – we need them, because without ideas, there’ll be no Whiteboards, and that could leave us all very badly needing a drink!

Once again, congratulations on publication!
Given your recent fellowship at Stanford, you likely have first-hand thoughts on "Rich U: Is Stanford Too Close to Silicon Valley?" This New Yorker article raises numerous issues your perspective and insights could illuminate.

I have worked in the college textbook industry for 20 years. With school starting again, I find myself explaining the value and life cycle of a textbook to new students & their parents. I'd like to hear how you would explain textbooks (buying in a college store or online, renting, doing without, selling it at the end of the semester) & if you think they are a necessary part of the investment in a college education.

In the current market situation we are experiencing there is a lot of talk regarding "Fed Action." We also here there is not a whole lot more the Fed can do to help the economy. I think a White Board discussion regarding what the Fed can do to help the economy in general, what they have done during the recession and beyond, and what other actions the Fed can take to help the economy would be very benefitial to the listeners of the program. Thanks.

Paddy, Huge fan of your whiteboards...as a Property Manager for apartments / homes in San Francisco and Oakland, thought it would be a good idea to do a "whiteboard" on Rent Control. I deal with it on a daily basis and have created "cheat sheets" for owners prior to buying and or renting but the general public along with most Real Estate agents do not understand how it works.

Best of luck...

Paddy,

I am an instructor in introductory business courses and one of the things I try to do is give students an easy to understand overview of what a business does to make money. In the past I have used the traditional lemonade stand, but after eight years it is getting old. Could you do a whiteboard presentation on this concept? If possible, in order to hold the students' interest, I would like to see how some of the current political discussion in the US on "how to grow business" included in the presentation.

Thanks.

I would like to see whiteboard on the connection between bonds and stocks. Why the negative correlation? What factors affect each?

Thanks,
GCB
