What we spend on Mother's Day
Bob Moon: And now, a nod to a special day this weekend.
Little girl: Mother's Day is the day that everybody gives their mom presents!
Just how do you put a value on everything your mother's done for you?
From maternal guidance:
Stuart's mom, in a MadTV sketch: What do you do if a stranger asks you what time it is?
Stuart: Saaaayyyy... it's daytime, and run!
Stuart's mom: Good!
To financial advice...
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles singing: My mama told me, you better shop around...
Actually, I'm not sure that was financial advice. Well, my mother always said, "If you want something bad enough, save up your allowance." Now it seems appropriate that I saved up my allowance to buy her that Mother's Day gift.
Mom: Honey, look the boys sent me flowers for Mother's Day.
Son 1: Hey mom, can we borrow 10 bucks for a Mother's Day pizza?
Son 2: We spent all our money on this box of flowers.
And this year, Mother's Day spending could reach over $16 billion. The average American is expected to shell out about a $140 on a gift. The National Confectioners Association says we buy around half-a-billion dollars of candy around Mother's Day, about 140 million cards are exchanged, and we'll spend another $2 billion on flowers!
Mr. T rapping: Mother, there is no other, like mother, so treat her right.
