Universities sometimes provide useful R&D talent for companies looking to invest. A new study from from the British magazine “Times Higher Education” finds that East Asian academics, particularly those from South Korea, are valuable enough to bring in six figure payments per person each year. American scholars, by comparison, are paid $25,000 each on average. (Marketplace)
The number of days it takes to get from Asia to Europe sailing through the newly opened Northeastern Passage in the Arctic. A Chinese cargo ship was the first to use the route after embarking for Rotterdam, Holland from Dailan, China on Thursday. Melting sea ice in the Arctic should allow Asian ships to cut their travel time to Europe nearly in half, avoiding a normal trip through the Indian Ocean and up the Suez Canal. (Marketplace)
