Would you want a "families-only" section on airplanes?

Ever been on a plane and had to sit near a screaming baby or rambunctious kids? Yeah, not fun. But have you ever wished families would just have their own section on the plane?

Well, results from an unscientific online poll out this week from the travel website Skyscanner say close to 60 percent of the more than 2,000 people who responded said they'd like a "families-only" section on airplanes, so they can sit as far away as possible from children. And 20 percent even say they'd prefer child-free flights. Most of the poll's respondents who wanted a families-only section don't have young children, by the way. And some of the parents who took part in the survey would actually prefer to sit with other families.

If you're in favor of the idea, though, you might have to dream on: USA Today says the airlines it checked with haven't even considered the idea.

Results from Marketplace's unscientific poll of our 6-person Morning Report crew show that 3 people would vote in favor of a families-only section, 2 people say it depends, and one person would vote no.

Marketplace Morning Report host Steve Chiotakis says, "Don't they separate screaming babies from everyone else in church? Can't they do the same thing on an airplane?" And senior business correspondent Bob Moon is for the idea as long as it's not done in a discriminatory manner.

The maybe voters said that it would depend on the length of the flight. And the lone no voter said flying on an airplane is already an uncomfortable experience, so why not take the pain.

We want to know what you think. Would you like a families-only section on airplanes?

i think there should be family only sections because kids would be more entertained if they had other kids to play with. It would keep them happy and other passengers happy.

This really upsets me. I don't have children but they are part of our world and people should be more accepting.

I guess some people would prefer to live in complete isolation away from anyone and anything that might possibly bother or offend them. Every adult was a child at some point but for some reason, some people seem to forget that.

This is like the "children should be seen and not heard" mantra from the past and is extremely discriminatory.

OMG! Children are people too! Our children should be welcome everywhere.. crying, screaming, laughing, what ever .. they are being normal for their age... too many adults are spoiled and intolerant. And breast feeding should be allowed everywhere and restricted no where.

I agree completely about the breastfeeding issue.

How about passenger sections divided by size and weight?

Children, though active, are not spilling over into other people’s seats with their size.

I completely agree with the idea. For those who say they are part of our world, that's true, but parents need to better train their children if they want to take them to public places.

It is very unfair and uncomfortable to have a child crying when you're trying to read, have a conversation, or just enjoy the flight.

I go even further, they should charge more when parents have kids over 4, and reduce other passenger's ticket prices accordingly to compensate for the inconvenience.

I am a single, professional female and don't have children. I fly frequently and sit near my share of kids. They aren't really a bother unless one is having a meltdown, which can happen on occassion. The only time I really minded it was when I paid for a first-class seat on a vacation, and wound up sitting next to a family (who must have been wealthy to afford first-class for 5 people), and their two young twins were acting up the whole time and spilling into my seat..throwing things at me, etc. The flight attendant felt bad, as did I. I thought it was crappy that I paid double for my flight and could have had a much more relaxed experience in coach.

What I DO think airlines should be working on is their policy towards dogs, since 7 dogs died in August on an American Airlines flight because they were kept in cargo hold without any climate control (they basically suffocated from heat). Let's treat people's pets a little more humanely, shall we??

Airports, airlines and airplanes are all family-unfriendly, so we avoid them, the same way we avoid snooty churches, retail establishments and other undesirable locations.

Just remember, old people (I include myself in this), these kids will probably be changing YOUR diapers someday through no ironic twist of fate. All people, old and young, can be obnoxious, smelly, and annoying at times. Lest you think you are perfect, don't be too critical of children.

I am more annoyed by rude adults who talk too loud on their cellphones, push and shove, cut in lines and cause a scene when they are old enough to know better. Can we create a special section for these idiots? I have a name for that section in mind.

I have two children, and to be honest, the most stressful part of traveling via plane is worrying that my children are going to bother other people. I wish others would understand that sometimes kids are just kids and there's nothing that you can do! Even the most skillfully parented kids have bad days! A little understanding for stressed out parents on board flights would go a long way! So yes, give us our own section on the plane. Then we can band together!
