White House to undergo renovations

The White House is getting a facelift. This weekend, construction crews will start the biggest renovation since the Truman Era. Back then, the first family had to move across the street to Blair House while work was being done. This time, the Obamas will be able to stay put. But the estimated cost -- $376 million -- is more than a hundred times what it cost to build the White House.

Among the repairs: the heating, cooling, electrical and fire-alarm systems will all be repaired and upgraded. The project is expected to take around four years.

I think it is a crime to even think about spending that kind of money in times like we now have. Schools are laying off teachers, workers in the private sector are being laid off and they are wanting to spend millions on remodeling the White House, I don't think so. Would or could this proposal be brought to a vote of the American people or is this already a done-deal?

I think it's a terrible time to start a project like this. It's more than likely long over due. I wonder who's decision it really is to take on this project. This is definitely going to add fuel to the fire for all the people who don't like Obama's decisions already. I really wish we were not spending this much money on a "renovation" while our country is in this recession, but there are many other places I wish our money wasn't going as well and I guess it's impossble to please everyone.
