Ancestry.com -- one of the most popular online family tree websites -- announced that it will buy rival website Archives.com for around $100 million.

Sadly, this isn't surprising. Archives hosts the free 1940 census images, and the overwhelming number of hits on 2 April 2012 demonstrate to the world that there is a significant interest in genealogy. I'm crossing my fingers and making donations to help Cyndislist.com and Familysearch.org remain free of ACOM and available to all.
