Morning Reading

Good morning. Nothing too hard-hitting today so far, but some good things to read nonetheless. Starting with -- did you know, they're opening a McDonald's at the Louvre??

No seriously they are (Daily Telegraph)

"This is the last straw," said one art historian working at the Louvre, who declined to be named. "This is the pinnacle of exhausting consumerism, deficient gastronomy and very unpleasant odours in the context of a museum," he told the Daily Telegraph.

Other items:

The green church of T. Boone Pickens (Bloomberg)

Killing the entrepreneurs (Washington Times)

Paying to keep farms open after bank busts (NPR)

Christmas will be less tacky this year (The Consumerist)

Apparently, this is supposed to be business reporting (Media Monkey):

More American workers outsourcing their own jobs overseas (The Onion) Funny stuff.

I remember my mouth falling open when I saw the Starbucks at the Forbidden City in Beijing a few years ago. It was packed. I thought THAT was the last straw. But the Louvre? They'll be burying the Holy Grail there next.

There's a Starbucks just outside the Louvre too! It's in a hallway connecting a shopping center to the Louvre's lowest floor. I imagine the McDonald's will be in the underground shopping area (i.e., a very small mall above the subway station). There certainly were loads of customers at Starbucks in January when I was there.

The one time I visited France, McDonalds was the only place I could find a public restroom most of the time.

The more the merrier, there, I say...
