Morning Reading

Good Monday morning. My quote for the day: "Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped" (Elbert Hubbard). Some interesting things to read:

Too big to fail banks have gotten even bigger (Washington Post) This piece is getting a lot of buzz. If you haven't read it, you should.

Assessing the underwear economic indicator (Washington Post) I hear secretly the gov't is plotting a "cash for boxers" stimulus program.

Stocks: another scary September market? (Businessweek)

What baseball cards tell us about the economy (Forbes)

Disney buys Marvel (NPR) Disney takes ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Iron Man, Captain America, you'll team up with Winnie the Pooh. And Tigger too. Now get going!

Of course if you send the message that a bank can be "too big to fail" what do the banks do?

They say: "Hey, if we get big enough, we don't have to worry about failing because we'll be too big to fail" So, they get bigger.
