A literal financial security blanket

How's this for recession art? An out-of-work artist based in Toronto took his last $208 in cash and sewed it together to make a blanket.

True/Slant interviewed Brian Rushton Phillips:

"The bills were sewn together on a standard Singer sewing machine using dark green embroidery thread. It was a painstaking process which took months to complete. The final blanket is actually the second attempt. The cash that was used to create the blanket is my last. I am presently living on credit...

It seemed appropriate under the circumstances, to use what little cash I had left on this project. I felt it mirrored the fate of so many others in today's economic climate."

Phillips says living on credit has taught him the value of cash and made him re-think his living expenses and lifestyle. I'm guessing that occurred after he made a blanket out of his last $200.

That's a good question, though. What would you do with your last $200?

I think the art project is very clever. I bet he eventually gets a lot more than $208 for the blanket.

I would probably have spent my last $200 on a tent and a sleeping bag.
