Economy still bed-ridden?

My weekly podcast, After the Bell, is now available. This week was an important one for figuring out how far the economy might be from getting out of the hospital and how it'll be weaned from all those government IV tubes. Musical assistance from The Perishers, New Buffalo and Conor Oberst, long-time lead singer of Bright Eyes (one of my favorites). If you'd like the podcast to download automatically each week, click here.

I don't mind sound bites as long as they are relevant. This is an *audio* program after all. If the sound bites bother you, then *read* the print version.

Listening to the sound bites of the people being interviewed allows one to pick-up on the tone of the persons voice. Was that a sarcastic tone in his laugh? Did she sound a bit leery or guarded in her response? Did that comment just roll off too easily as if it were some P.R. spin script? More than just words can be heard in a sound bite.

Actually, I like the sound bites. I like hearing things from the horse's mouth.

A few things I disagree with...

1. If you are unemployed over a year, it does not make you ancient. If you were smart in your particular field, then chances are you still are competent. It's just harder to get people to hire you when it appears you have been lazy for a year.

2. As a government laborer I can tell you that we have recently received a shipment of new vehicles. I know this may happen again, but chances are it probably won't. Raining new cars is not very common for most of the government.

C'mon Scott, STOP with the sound bites! You (can) tell a great story without 'em! Just listen to Steve Henn's use of them, INANE! and rates a big UGH from me.
