Final Note

North Korea might do some environmental good (for a profit)

Kai Ryssdal Mar 7, 2011

This final note today, in which sustainability jumps the shark. You know how big polluters — or anyone, really — if they want to reduce their environmental impact can, by what’re called carbon offsets? Basically emissions credits from sustainable sources of energy to offset whatever the bad pollution in question is?

Well, turns out North Korea’s got a lot of hydropower. And they want to sell some offsets. The U.N. has expressed interest in buying them. Could net Kim Jong Il a couple million dollars a year.
