David Johnson's incredibly abrupt and completely unexplained departure from Marketplace screams CONTRACT DISPUTE. Either Mr. Johnson asked for more money than NPR was willing to pay or NPR just went through another round of budget-cutting OR Mr. Johnson got another gig.

In any case, this is a HUGE loss to this show. Many Fridays I would make a special point to listen to the show just to hear David Johnson's segment. No more.

What a big loss. David was the closer for the greatest business program. He made the bad good and the good great in wall street. I'm one of those that is ralling for his return. It took me a very long time to get used to Kai after D.Broncacio. Hope this was his choice and not Marketplace.

Something has been missing from the friday evening show for the last few weeks. tonight i finally visited the website and found the answer. On aug 29th i was sitting on the Elberta beach watching the sun set over lake michigan and missed the show. thanks to david for the many laughs over the years. god bless.

He must have seen the writing on the wall and now the market has gone to far south for even David to be positive about. Good luck amigo.

I'm another one who just realized David Johnson officially left the show, and I too am bummed. I thought I'd just been missing him but wow. His analysis was great - clear, insightful, and delivered with just the right amount of humor. I really enjoyed him and learned a great from each commentary. Thanks for a great run, and I will definitely try to track him down.

I finally realized that I missed Johnson's swan song in real time. Now having pulled it from your archive, I am 'bummed out'. I don't know the reason, but the only valid excuse would be that Johnson had died! The program is missing something. I haven't felt this bad about public radio since NPR canned Bob Edwards (and I will never forgive NPR for that). Cheers! But bring Johnson back, pronto!!!

I haven't been this disappointed since we lost Tim Russert. Godspeed, Mr. Johnson. I hope you are well. My drive home on Fridays will be less enlightened.
