Cold-hearted Mother Nature chills NYC
BOB MOON: The Valentine “red” that folks in a lot of the country are seeing today is at the tip of their nose and the tops of their ears. The winter storm that hit the Midwest yesterday arrived with a vengeance in the Northeast today, including New York City.
We couldn’t help wondering how the freezing conditions might be affecting people’s plans to go out tonight and spend money on their valentines. We sent Ashley Milne-Tyte into the elements to do a little digging.
ASHLEY MILNE-TYTE: New Yorkers battled through snow, hail and slush today. As for those evening plans . . .
ALEXANDER ROSABAL: Somebody would be crazy to come out in this weather.

ROSABAL: I was going to go to a restaurant, and take my girlfriend out, have a nice dinner with a little bit of wine. And, you know, cater to her every whim.
He’s opting for a night on the couch instead. Then again . . .
NICOLE CHALAS: Despite the weather, we are still very booked for Valentine’s Day.
That’s Nicole Chalas, a hostess at Abboccato
in midtown, where appetizers begin at $14. or everyone who’s canceled, she says, someone else has jumped in.
At restaurant I Trulli
, diners have already paid for the $85 Valentine’s Day menu in advance. But general manager John Fanning says, for those who can’t make it tonight . . .
JOHN FANNING: We are putting the investment that they made into a gift card and sending it to them so that they can redeem that price for the valentine meal on another day.
Still, he expects around 200 diners this evening.
