The humble asterisk is plaguing baseball fans these days. Do the records of Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi deserve to be singled out of illegal steroid use. There is doping in a lot of other sports. Like pigeon racing. Here's how it works. The birds are taken hundreds of miles from home and then released. The pigeon that flies back the fastest wins. So far so good. But some pigeon fanciers...as they're called...have been tempted to give their birds chemical assistance. Marketplace's Stephen Beard reports from the western England town of Cheltenham.

A half century of legal wrangling around one of the world's best art collections may be finished. The Barnes Foundation Collection in suburban Philadelphia includes works by Picasso, Cezanne and Matisse. A Pennsylvania judge ruled today the Foundation can break its trust and move to a new location in the heart of Philly's museum district. As Alisa Roth reports, the Barnes Battle has always been caught up in money.

Family planning battles

Family planning groups went to court today to stop a new law. It's something called the 'Conscience Protection' clause that was buried deep in the big spending bill the President signed last week. In theory it prevents discrimination against health care facilities that don't provide abortions. But Helen Palmer reports from the Health Desk at WGBH, womens' rights groups call it a backdoor try at overturning Roe v Wade. And they say it could cost states billions of dollars.

Good luck getting a doctor's appointment this month. Many patients are flocking to doctor's offices trying to beat the clock. They've already met their deductibles for this year and and they want to make sure their insurance company foots the bill before the new year, and a new deductible. Marketplace's Matthew Algeo reports, it's a system that's frustrating for both patients and providers.
